Getting to Know Us -BETTER

MOPP is an annual group exhibition that moves to a new location every year. The exhibition characterizes the impermanence and site-specificity of the artworks
as well as the adaptive qualities of the participating artists. MOPP highlights under represented talented artists/photographers while emphasizing the critical
role of experimentation and process within conventional and unconventional exhibition spaces.

The 4th annual MOPP is scheduled for February 2008. We have our eyes set on a venue but to have wait for builders to finish.Cape Town City will host the one-night show of live performances and video projections by artists from around the country and the world.

MOPP was first conceived in the summer of 2005 as a month long exhibition on the
famous long street. The street and city inspired works by twelve artists-photographers
from the greater Cape Town area.

In 2006 MOPP took place at Azaad youth centre, located on the slopes of the great mountain
and in a place many of our parents came from District 6.The exhibition featured 20 artists
and here we used the openig nite as a platform for other city artist, performance , poetry, musicians filmmakers all shared the limelight, and just to add the that nite the city of cape town
had a power outage- we still triumphed over that and pull off a show many still talk about.

MOPP 2007 took place at the Arternative gallery,
the owners was new to the street but old to the
plight of the not recognised artsists. This was another special one i must add. It
included 28 artists working in sculpture, installation, video and performance. Part
of the exhibition existed in the gallery while the other took place in the underground parkeing
space of the City administration building.
The space was some how blocked from the admin building
and became a forgotten space.we revelled on the opportunity to go crazy.
The opening nite was a huge success
will sales to many of the artists that exhibited.

the exhibtions have started out mostly auto funded but in 2007 we
awarded some money from a art fund and we had the opportunity to share the vision with more, we made our first travelling exhibtion n an envelope and
for the remainder of the year have donated packs to schools in the greater cape flats.
in an aim to get some new blood for the coming exhibtions...

This is an Organic process, and we are learning as we go on, the kollektive
still keeps in touch,as some of us have
gone to study abroad and exhibit the works of the participants. We believe everyone have
a role in making history - our country comes from the ashes like
a pheonix and we as the younglions want
to be a part of that, We are making new paths.
